The 2nd edition of the Asia Urban Energy Assembly, held alongside ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week in Bangkok, brought together global experts to address the region’s energy transition and explore technologies for reducing emissions. The conference focused on how urban energy systems can accelerate the shift to renewable energy, with a special emphasis on cooling demand.
Sudheer Perla, Managing Director of Tabreed Asia, participated in a key panel discussion, “Accelerating District Energy in the Asia-Pacific.” As cooling demand increases across the Asia-Pacific, district cooling is emerging as a critical solution for reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. During the panel, Sudheer emphasized the importance of district energy systems in achieving regional climate targets. He shared insights on Tabreed’s successful implementation of energy-efficient cooling networks, which integrate renewable energy sources to minimize environmental impact while meeting the needs of rapidly growing cities.
Sudheer also discussed the challenges and opportunities in scaling district cooling across the region. He highlighted how collaborations between the public and private sectors, along with supportive policy frameworks, are crucial to expanding the adoption of district energy solutions. Tabreed’s innovative technologies, he noted, not only improve energy efficiency but also support South-East Asia’s broader goals of decarbonization and sustainable urban development.
