Tabreed in India through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technology (MAHAPREIT), a Government of Maharashtra undertaking, is set to bring energy-efficient and climate-smart cooling solutions to Mumbai. This partnership entails establishing District Cooling plants for urban brownfield locations as well as greenfield.
The MoU signed between Tabreed in India and MAHAPREIT in 2023 seeks to deploy sustainable cooling solutions in a holistic, systemic and circular manner for greenfield and brownfield sites in the Mumbai region through Cooling Demand Elimination (Passive) & Demand Aggregation (DCS). The vision is to combine aspects around building design that reduce cooling requirements (also referred to as passive cooling), and then ensuring the residual load is met as efficiently as possible through District Cooling. These projects will also look at the implementation of the District Energy scheme in a manner that integrates with Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) and /or Waste to Energy plans where possible. The objectives under the partnership are to reduce grid electricity consumption by 50-70%, reduce Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE) usage by 30%, and replace all potable water with TSE. Areas under consideration include Bandra Kurla Complex, Thane-Belapur Road, and Navi Mumbai.
